COLD CALLS is a supplementary collection of short pieces connected to Matthew Grouse’s music-theatre work ‘Calls to this number are being diverted’. Each of these short pieces were first conceived as mono files to be transmitted over the phone to signed up members of the public.

The organisation making the calls on this album is Re-sounding Success, a market research company with unique methods for collecting customer satisfaction data. They conduct surveys where the usual numerical or text-based scales for assessing customer satisfaction are replaced by a selection of musical excerpts and gestures. Re-sounding Success' "respondents" are asked to choose from a selection of sounds and musical expressions performed by employees at the other end of the phone, and to then select the sound that they feel best matches their opinion/feeling on each survey question. Re-sounding Success makes music useful! Re-sounding Success makes surveys creative, fun and highly customisable!

4. Call up a friend, and play a track to them through the phone
